　　《靈魂燈》的故事發(fā)生在封建時代的一個北方村莊。Thuong 獨自撫養(yǎng)兒子，希望丈夫服完兵役后能回來。一天，Linh（Thuong 的兒子）無意中撿到一盞神秘的燈。他開始稱墻上的影子為父親。據(jù)村里的巫師說，這是一盞靈魂燈，可能召喚了尋求報復(fù)的惡靈。從那一刻起，不尋常的鬼魂事件開始困擾 Thuong 和村民。

 瑪利亞（朱麗·安德魯斯  飾）是一個年輕活潑的修女，喜歡在大自然下高聲歌唱，所以她常常忘記了修道院里的規(guī)矩。院長認為瑪利亞并不屬于規(guī)矩嚴格的修道院。院長與眾嬤嬤商量后，決定安排瑪利亞到一位名叫特拉普（克里斯托弗·普盧默 飾）上校家當家庭教師。上校的妻子去世多年，留下7個孩子，他要求對孩子嚴格管教。他告訴瑪利亞在他家的家庭教師都做不長久，都是因為孩子的惡作劇?，斃麃喒灰苍獾搅藧鹤鲃?，可是這位善良的老師并沒有告訴他們的父親，而是像個母親一樣照顧孩子，很快跟孩子打成一片。上校也漸漸在瑪利亞的引導(dǎo)下改變了對孩子們的態(tài)度。上校與瑪利亞之間發(fā)生了感情，他們完婚后回到了已被納粹占領(lǐng)的奧地利，上校并不想為納粹辦事，一家人準備逃跑……
